Coaching Services

Initial Three-Month Coaching Block

This is the foundation of the running coaching I provide (click here to learn about my personal training services):

We start with a face-to-face* meeting so we can get to know each other. I will ask about your running and racing history, your feelings about running, and your goals (5k, 10k, half-marathon, marathon, roads, trails – whatever you want to try).
Then we will work together to develop a training plan to achieve those goals. The training plan can be as detailed as you need, including day-by-day workouts, warm-up drills, stretching, strength training advice, race strategy, etc.
I will set up an on-line training log for you that you can use to enter your running data and – most importantly – your comments and feelings about each run.
Each week, we will talk on the phone so that you can update me on your progress, challenges you are facing, and your successes. During these weekly calls, we can review your previous week’s running, talk about aches and pains you might have, and, if you need it, I can give you a pep talk!
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I will meet with you at some point early in the 3-month time frame to watch you run so that I can give you specific advice on your form.

When (not if!) you achieve your primary goal, I will donate $25 in your honor to a high school track or cross-country program of your choice. I love supporting young runners' access to the sport!

Start-up Fee: $50Monthly Fee: $175 ($175 x 3 months = $525)
*Face-to-face meeting for San Francisco Bay Area residents – others can meet via phone or Skype.

Subsequent Month-by-Month Coaching

  • One additional month at a time: $185 per month
  • Three to five additional months at a time: $175 per month
  • Six or more additional months at a time: $165 per month

In-Person Coaching Sessions

Would you like some guidance during a track workout to help you with your running form? Do you think having someone guide you in person during, say, a track workout would help you maximize the benefits of it? I can coach you in person at a track or other venue. All you have to do is contact me and we can set it up.
Hourly Rate: $50, plus travel costs if more than 10 miles from Alameda, CA. Rate for small groups would be less per person - rate is negotiable - contact me!

Swimming, Cycling, Triathlons

I will be happy to give you advice on these other disciplines, especially if you are a beginner, but I can also connect you with some outstanding coaches I know. Just ask!
